A parcel arrived in the post today and it was this cat tent, a prize in a promotion that I participated in last year. I think it's rather nifty and Trixie went inside straight away. I think she likes it!

A friend has had to cut out all salt from his diet due to a heart condition. He is finding it very difficult. I hope I never have to do the same as I love salt. I use the flakes - this small bowl lives next to my stove.

I love it when shrubs in my garden flower. This month the abelias are looking particularly pretty with their glossy dark leaves and little white flowers. I spent some time sitting in my garden reading today. Thank goodness the weather is cooling off. And fortunately there's been no wind at all!

Had some friends round this evening, got a fire going in the corner of the garden (easy with this new-fangled instant charcoal stuff) and feasted on wors, chops and salad. Feels good to follow good old South African tradition ;-)

Day four of Cape Town's first big heatwave of this summer... phew, it is SIZZLING. When I got home today I had a small bowl of fiery habenero chips and a big glass of cold water with ice. Hot and cold, does the trick every time.

One of the taps in my kitchen sink has broken - for the last few days I have been using a pair of pliers to open and shut the flow. But now I have bought a new mixer device, and just need to get it installed. Nearly there!
